    Workshops and Webinars

I offer interactive, in-person workshops and online webinars to share lessons from psychological and social science on how to most effectively improve understanding of difficult social problems. I provide framing workshops for experts and advocates in the fields of child and family policy, mental health and substance abuse, racial equity, immigration, violence prevention and economic development. I also engage in intensive hands-on coaching with organizations to help them apply evidence-based strategies to their own work.

      Messaging Strategy and Tools

To help advocates understand how to effectively navigate public opinion on issues, I develop both messaging strategies and toolkits. Pictured to the left is a toolkit developed for the Maine Association of Non Profits, with sample content including draft op-eds and social media tools.

        Explaining Issues With Film

Animation provides a unique way to explain, succinctly, concepts and issues. Working with the inimitable Rob Shore of Picture this Productions, I produced this short animated explainer video about the causes, consequences and solutions to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

          Communicating Data Effectively

Charts and infographics won't be effective no matter how clever the design if the data do not support the story advocates are trying to tell. I offer strategic advising on storytelling with data, and develop infographics and data visualizations that follow not just data visualization best practices (which are essential!) but also cognitive and framing science.

For example, I used developmental theory to organize indicators of child well-being in New Hampshire. Take a look: Visualizing Child Well-Being in New Hampshire.
